Stunning 1967 Artemide Saffo Table Lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti This lamp features a hand blown Murano glass shade with a black internal open glass ball situated on a cast aluminium base, the Saffo is a stunning light and the centre piece of any mid century space age lighting collector. Unlike, the Lesbos, Angelo Mangiarotti's Saffo was only produced for a short period of time from 1967. This lamp is featured in the Taschen 1000 lights book. Mangiarotti named the Lesbos after the Greek Island and Saffo after Sappho who was an Archaic Greek poet from the island. A Saffo in this condition is very rare to come by due to the age of these lights. The light features its original cable and in line switch which works perfectly.

The lamp has not been PAT tested, but it is recommended to be performed by a qualified electrician. Lamp in shaded blown glass. The shading of the base permits concealment of the light source, while the upper shading reflects a part of the of the light toward the support surface. The central part, without shading.

The characteristic "mushroom" form, a recurring feature in Mangiarotti's work, can be seen here in one of its most pertinent applications. " Courtesy "Su Mangiarotti book by Beppe finessi. CONDITION : Excellent condition with no breaks, chips or cracks , some light age marks might be present to the base but not noticeable. All measurements are as accurate as possible when taken; some slight differences in light conditions may be seen on the photos but if there are any age related marks or damage, we try to show this in the photos and highlight it in the listings.
